Aluminum in everyday life
Aluminum is less susceptible, especially for punctual impact. The material is slightly softer in direct comparison to carbon, which can be an advantage especially when force acts on a small area. If the bike, previously leaning loosely against the tree, suddenly falls over, you can see pure fear in the eyes of the carbon riders. With an aluminum frame, there is no reason to panic. Aluminum frames are also preferred for the somewhat harder riding style, for example in cyclocross. Some of the models are equipped with a carbon fork to save additional weight.
Wide range
When it comes to features, there are virtually no limits. From entry-level bikes at an affordable price to professional bikes with Ultegra rear derailleurs, manufacturers cater to almost every need. The intended use is also taken into account, and models can be found with a neutral and comfortable seating position, but also pure racers with a compact design. Road bikes are traditionally the "flagships" of a bike manufacturer, so it's no wonder that these bikes are available in all colors and the best designs. However, for those who prefer understatement, there are also more muted models.
Disc brakes as the new standard
When the first road bikes with disc brakes came onto the market a few years ago, there was an outcry. The particularly traditional sector of racing bikes has always relied on the classic rim brake. The clear advantages of a disc brake (significantly better braking force distribution, even braking effect) were not recognized. The first models still had problems with lateral forces caused by the air resistance of the disc. Now, all models are equipped with special brakes that are perfectly suited for use on a road bike. The slightly higher weight of the system is only a disadvantage for professionals. Please note that according to the current statutes of the UCI, a bike with disc brakes is not allowed for official races.
The tour, the commute to work, or a race after all?
Racing bikes have been enjoying renewed popularity for several years. For a long time, mountain bikes were "misused" for many purposes. But anyone who mainly encounters paved roads on their way to work, weekend tours around the lake, shopping in the city center, or bike tours through the Alps often wastes a lot of energy. With a road bike and its 28-inch tires, the same routes can be covered much faster and with less effort. Once you have felt the difference, you will reach for your road bike again and again for the road and cycle paths. With the correct frame size and saddlebags, these bikes also provide a sporty alternative to trekking bikes.
