How are bike backpacks different from other backpacks?

Since you will sweat quickly on the saddle, back ventilation and airflow (the "air flow") are very important. These are more important than, for example, the hip belt, which is very important for hiking. When riding a bike, you are bent forward. You don't carry your weight on your hips, but more over the shoulder straps and back. A narrower hip belt also gives you more freedom of movement when bent over, especially when pedaling. That's why the carrying system differs from that of a conventional hiking backpack.

Bike backpacks also have a narrower cut, because on the one hand, aerodynamics while riding are important and on the other hand, the freedom of movement of your arms. For example, if you are standing while riding down a trail, you need to make sure that your upper arms and elbows do not rub against the backpack.

You also don't need hiking pole attachments. What you do need is a helmet holder.

A backpack for cycling is therefore very carefully adapted by the manufacturer for the intended use.

It's the little things that count: details of bike rucksack features

Like daypacks or hiking rucksacks, good bike rucksacks are divided into useful compartments. Your clothes, food and tools can be optimally stowed and, most importantly, quickly found and removed. Ideally, your bike backpack will have an opening for a hydration tube, which means it can also be used as a hydration backpack. Good bike backpacks also have an extra compartment for attaching your helmet and a handy compartment for a bike lock.

In addition: The safety of a bicycle backpack

To increase passive safety, your bike backpack should have reflectors on the outside. It is also advantageous if there is a fastening option (a strap) where you can attach an additional rear light. If the backpack has a rain cover, it should be brightly colored and also have reflectors. This increases safety in bad weather.

Bike backpacks for mountain bikers with integrated back protectors

If you do a lot of downhill mountain biking, you might want to consider getting a backpack with an integrated back protector. This way, you kill two birds with one stone. Your spine is optimally protected and you still have storage space for water and equipment.

How do I adjust my bike backpack correctly?

The answer is simple: comfortably! It must not press or rub while riding. And thanks to modern carrying systems, you can quickly and easily adjust the shoulder straps and waist belt until everything fits. With some models, you can completely detach the hip belt if it bothers you.

For women, there are some specially adapted backpacks that are optimally adapted to the female anatomy. They are shaped slightly differently than unisex or men's backpacks and fit better on a woman's body.

Which backpack should I choose for road biking?

On a road bike, weight and aerodynamics play an even greater role than in mountain biking. Therefore, you should choose a suitable backpack that is small and light.

If you have planned a long road bike tour where you know you won't be able to refill your drinking water and your two water bottles are not enough for you, you can also take a hydration backpack with you. Depending on the water bladder, you will then have an additional 2 liters of liquid with you, plus a little storage space.

Bike backpacks for kids

We also offer a wide selection of bike backpacks for children. These are smaller than the adult versions, but still feature a full range of great components. Padded shoulder straps, practical outer pockets and safety reflectors are usually part of the standard equipment. Particularly practical is the chest strap that prevents the backpack from slipping.

With all this equipment, girls and boys can proudly and happily take their own food and drink with them on a trip, just like the grown-ups.
